The Journey Begins

Having been a health and fitness enthusiast most of my adult life, I think I've tried most commonly known forms of cardiovascular exercise including running. AND for the record I still love Billy Blanks and Tae Bo. Billy and I have spent many a winter workout together in my living room over the years.

But even before Billy there was weight training! Deep in my heart I love the gym even though at times it may not seem that way. Things can get a little dull sometimes. I've been in that place for awhile now and had to find something to keep me interested. My friend Lori from Columbus has been training hard for the Columbus Marathon. Her courage and determination sparked my interest in running once again! She is a joy and an inspiration!

Lori in the meantime has decided through much soul searching that the marathon is not the right fit for her at this time and is going to do the half marathon instead. So even though my longest run in many years is 5 miles, I'm going for 13.1 WITH Lori! We're going to encourage and support each other through the miles ahead. Why do 13.1? Because I CAN! I think I can, I think I can, I think I can..... We are going to rock this race. Look Out!

Lori's husband Abiy (2x Boston qualifer) said a really cool and insightful thing. That each run should have a purpose whether it be a long run for mileage, track work for speed, etc. Anything else is just "junk miles." I like that and intend to make each run purposeful.

I am so excited to do something new. To do it with a good friend is a wonderful bonus beyond my expectations!

  1. Oh yay! I get to be the first comment on your new blog. Yes we can! I think the best thing about this whole journey is meeting the friend of a life time. Karma is working here.
